ペレラと倉さんの友人アジスより、被災地にコンピュータ教室をつくれないかとの提案が来ました。下記メールなどを掲載します。

僕がスリランカへ行く前からメールで文通を始め、スリランカ滞在中は親身になって世話をしてくれた親友のアジスというコロンボのコンピュータ・エンジニアから以下のようなメールが届きました。

Hi Tengyo,

How are you ? I’m planning to start a Computer training institute in Galle.
We are planning to offer computer education for poor children around area. For
this, we are looking for affiliate with foreign university or institute.
Mainly we expect from this to provide a certificate with a good
recognition.
Is it possible to get such a affiliate from your University ? or from any
other contacts you have around the world.

Thank you for the e-mail.
As you know I also like to build a computer institute for the Tsunami
effected children but the only problem is that in order to start that we
have to start from the beginning, that is we have to first build a small
class room and then we have to get the computers, tables, electricity, and
most of all a teacher.(I want to give the computer education for the
children free through the school, not for any money because they are very
poor )

Even if we get all this in order to teach the children in school we have to
take special permission from the government. ( before I met you guys I
thought of opening a computer institute my self and that is when I got to
know about the government rules )

I can do all these things with the help of your friend too ( I have friends
and relations in the government and I can get these things done very soon )
but the funds are very low, at the moment I have about Rs 58,800/= , which
the university gave ( 70840yen ) and with some of my contributions I知 able
to buy some text books and other important things for the school children. (
I described them in my earlier e-mail )

I have a good idea on how to collect enough funds for this job, It is by
doing a Sri Lankan dancing concert in Japan with the help of Takeuchi san
and Lisa ( her sister is an organizer of dancing concerts ), I know the best
Sri Lankan traditional dancers who are now living in Japan and they like to
perform for us for a low price.

So if you are thinking of a computer institute please talk with Takeuchi san
and tell my idea and even if you have another idea it痴 Ok.

アジスのアフィリエイトの件は置いておいて、二人のコンピュータ教室のアイディアは似ていると思いませんか？

あまりにもタイミングが良かったので、ディネシとアジスに連絡先を教えて、彼らのプランについて話し合ってもらったんです。もし二人で具体的に案が出せたら、それを竹内ゼミで一つの支援オプションとして話してみても良いよ、ということで。

その結果、アジスから以下のメールが来ました。

Dear Tengyo,

As told, Dinesh call me, and we discuss about possible way to start a
Computer School here.

There were two Options.

1. Start new Computer institute fund by planed concert and maintain
and continue by your University group in Japan.

2. Build computer Lab in Government School.

According to my point of view 2nd option is not so easy, due to lot of
approval we need to take just before start it. And again there is a
risk that getting best use of it after built. Since we don’t have any
control on it after complete and handover to Government.

So we thought that best way to start a new institute, for this we need
to buy a land (at least 10-20 perch) and build a building. And also
setup a computer Lab, Library and lecture hall.

Still I don’t have clear idea about budget we require for this project
and how much fund can be raise from that concert.

Anyway I ‘ll try to give rough idea about the cost soon, I’ll discuss
with Dinesh regarding this again when I got a time. I like to hear
your idea also regarding this.

I hope we can do something to Improve computer Education in Sri Lanka.

まだ具体的な予算などは聞いていませんが、アジスには「こちらの資金の限度を超えるようなら援助は難しい」と伝えてあります。どこかの公立学校の中にコンピュータ教室を設置するのは政府からの許可をとるなど色々な手続きが必要ということです。
ただ、新しく学校を作るにもそれなりの手続きが必要なのでは、と思いますが、それは追々分かってくるのでしょうか。

いずれにせよ、アジスもディネシも信用できるパートナーですから、今後支援の対象を絞っていく上で、彼らの意見を聞く事は有意義だと思います。

ペラレから現在の被災地の様子に関しての手紙が来ました。写真は写真館にＵＰしました。

To. Mrs. Takeuchi, Mikho, Toyoda & all M.I.X. Members

This is my report on what had happened regarding the Tsunami aid fund.
As you know I visited Hikkaduwa and found a very poor school which I think is suitable for our aid program.

The name of the sch ool is Mahamaya Balika Vidiyalaya ( Mahamaya Girls School ), Abbalangoda, Hikkaduwa. The school has about 520 students and the classes are from grade 01 to grade 13 ( the age group of the students are from 6years old to 19 years old ).
Altogether 23 students & 11 parents (9 mothers and 2 fathers) have died of the Tsunami and at the moment most of the students are living in refugee camps in the area and I should say that almost all the children in the school are very poor.

In my first trip to the school I explained to the Principal and the teachers about the M.I.X association and how they have organized and collected some money to help the Tsunami victims. They were very happy to hear about you and they told me that they will have a meeting and discuss on what they will request for the school.

I again visited Hikkaduwa on the 19th of January and by that time they gave me a list on what they will request. It痴 as follows.

Note books, colored pencils, Underwear for the grade 01 students.
For grade 02 till grade 04 students they needed some text books which are important for the syllabus.
For the Grade 05 students- some books which will help them prepare for the special government examination in which they give scholarships.
From grade 06 to 09- some subject text books.
For grade 10 and 11- past exam paper books which is very important because they will face the Ordinary level examination which is a must for the students who are thinking about graduating for the 12 and 13 grades.
For the 12 and 13 grade students ・accounting / arts/ language / home science text books to gain more knowledge on the subjects ( the grade 13 student will face the Advance level examination which will give points to enter the university.)

The principal has given me a quotation on how much quantities they need ( the information I have given you above is in a nutshell because if I give you all the details about the names of the book s and the quantities it will be hard for you to understand)

When I convert the funds you gave me in to Sri Lankan Rupees it痴 like this:

1yen = Rs.0.83cents ( 25/12/2005 )
70840yen X 0.83 = Rs. 58,798.

So from this amount a think I can buy almost all the things the school children required and if there is a shortage I will donate some money as well.

The text books that we buy will be used by the students over and over again in the coming years and , So it will be useful for many students year by year.

I also had a plane to set up a computer unit for the school which I think is very important because only the best schools in Sri Lanka is teaching computer for the children and the poor schools like the one we are helping will never get a chance to study so the talent of these students will die away. But to set up a computer unit we at least need 25 computers, tables, and ect. At the moment our funds are not enough so we will keep that for the future.

０月２９日（土）、ろま・ばぐーすに行って来ました。

３時頃に仕事が終わり、三鷹産業会館内のお店にも立ち寄り、その後本店の方に行きました。豊田さんと谷さんが来てくれていました。

スリランカ・グッズを仕入れようと思って行ったのですが、結論から言うとスリランカのものはほとんどありませんでした。

その背景には「フリー・トレード」を巡る難しさ、というのがあります。

ここのお店ではスリランカ北部の紛争地域との間でフリー・トレードをしようとしています。しかし、その地域の縫製技術というのがとても「低い」ようなのです。電気も来ないような地域なので、電動ミシンも使えない、など、質の良い製品を作るのに制約があります。

この技術が「低い」というのは、「文化の違い」ということもあるので、「良い」「悪い」という問題ではないと思います。サリーのように、融通のきく服装に必要な縫製技術と、今の私たちが日常「商品」として売られているものに期待する縫製技術は違うからです。

しかし、日本を「市場」とするからには、日本人が「商品」に求める最低ラインの技術は必要です。ところが、その最低ラインのところまで持っていくのがとても大変なんだそうです。

どこだったかで作った可愛いアイ・ピローがあったんですが、それも「商品」として通用するものを作れるようになるまで２年かかったそうです。

そんな訳で、ろま・ばぐーすはすでに８年間も営業しているのですが、スリランカ商品はまだ扱えない状態だそうです。

ただ、スリランカ関連の商品がゲット出来るかもしれないツテを紹介していただけることになりました。そちらから仕入れが出来るかもしれません。

また、興味深かったのは、紛争を嫌って北部地域から国外に移住する人が多いのだそうですが、その移住先として最大の人数が集まっているのがノルウェーなんだそうです。倉君が今ノルウェーで日本語を教えている、というのは不思議な縁ですね。

フリマのチラシの文学部国際社会コースの学生へのチラシ配布、中里先生にお願いいたしました。私の方でお願いする前に、すでに中里先生の方でご用意くださっていました。

経済の国際社会プログラムの学生には、「ディベート」のクラスの担当のザブスラック先生に、火曜３限の授業の前にチラシを配らせてくださるようにお願いし ました。ですので、火曜日の打ち合わせの後（＞というか少し早めに抜けて）、私と一緒にだれか１人来てもらえるといいと思います。

学生の顔も見えた方が経済の学生さんたちにも興味を持ってもらえると思いますので。

11/2（水）にカレーナイトを決行することになりました。
